Title: House of Dark Shadows
Author: Robert Liparulo
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Summary: Dream house . . . or bad dream?
When the Kings move from L.A. to a secluded small town, fifteen-year-old Xander is beyond disappointed. He and his friends loved to create amateur films . . . but the tiny town of Pinedale is the last place a movie buff and future filmmaker wants to land.
But he, David, and Toria are captivated by the many rooms in the old Victorian fixer-upper they moved into–as well as the heavy woods surrounding the house.
They soon discover there’s something odd about the house. Sounds come from the wrong directions. Prints of giant, bare feet appear in the dust. And when David tries to hide in the linen closet, he winds up in locker 119 at his new school.
Then the really weird stuff kicks in: they find a hidden hallway with portals leading off to far-off places–in long-ago times. Xander is starting to wonder if this kind of travel is a teen’s dream come true . . . or his worst nightmare.
My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book and look forward to ready the rest in the series. I finished this book from the library. Thankfully they had it. I started flipping out because I have had a copy of this book for several years and finally started reading it then I got to a certain point and some of the pages repeated. It went back several chapters and kind of started over or something. Since I had bought it so long ago its not like I can take it back so I will have to buy a new one. Which I will do when I can.
I love books that have so much suspense that I get drawn in and keep turning the page trying to figure out what is happening or what will happen next. While the story is about the whole family Xander and David being the boys that they are go off on their own and they are the ones that help you to see and feel the thrill, suspense and mystery of the family.
The book ends leaving you wanting more while you also feel like the family came together. I look forward to the other books to see more of the mystery of the house and how the family tries to work together to figure out the house and to solve the other mystery. (I’m really trying to not give away what happened in the end for them to need to come together.) If you like mystery, thriller, suspense then you should check out this series.
