Title: And I Darken
Author: Kiersten White
Series: The Conquerors Saga #1
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Release Date: June 28, 2016
Description: NO ONE EXPECTS A PRINCESS TO BE BRUTAL. And Lada Dragwlya likes it that way. Ever since she and her gentle younger brother, Radu, were wrenched from their homeland of Wallachia and abandoned by their father to be raised in the Ottoman courts, Lada has known that being ruthless is the key to survival. She and Radu are doomed to act as pawns in a vicious game, an unseen sword hovering over their every move. For the lineage that makes them special also makes them targets. Lada despises the Ottomans and bides her time, planning her vengeance for the day when she can return to Wallachia and claim her birthright. Radu longs only for a place where he feels safe. And when they meet Mehmed, the defiant and lonely son of the sultan, who’s expected to rule a nation, Radu feels that he’s made a true friend—and Lada wonders if she’s finally found someone worthy of her passion. But Mehmed is heir to the very empire that Lada has sworn to fight against—and that Radu now considers home. Together, Lada, Radu, and Mehmed form a toxic triangle that strains the bonds of love and loyalty to the breaking point. From New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White comes the first book in a dark, sweeping new series in which heads will roll, bodies will be impaled . . . and hearts will be broken.
Title: The Dead Girl’s Dance
Series: The Morganville Vampires #2
Author: Rachel Caine
Publisher: NAL Jam
Release date: April 3, 2007
Description: Claire Danvers has her share of challenges—like being a genius in a school that favors beauty over brains, dealing with the homicidal girls in her dorm, and above all, finding out that her college town is overrun with vampires. On the up side, she has a great roommate (who tends to disappear at sunup) and a new boyfriend named Shane, whose vampire-hunting dad has called in backup: cycle punks who like the idea of killing just about anything. Now a fraternity is throwing its annual Dead Girls’ Dance and—surprise!—Claire and her equally outcast best friend, Eve, have been invited. When they find out why, all hell is going to break loose. Because this time both the living and the dead are coming out—and everybody’s hungry for blood.
Thoughts: This book picks up basically right when the first one stopped. That is a good thing. Overall it isn’t a bad book but my feelings are just so-so with it. The story moved along at an okay pace. It is a short, quick read. I do like the characters. I like that Claire is becoming someone you don’t want to mess with. She is learning to stand up to people.
Title: City On Our Knees
Publisher: Bethany House Publishers
Release Date: September 1, 2010
Description: Bestselling recording artist TobyMac has a passion for inspiring believers to step out and take action for their faith. Through compelling stories and Scripture, City on Our Knees will illustrate how Christians past and present have set aside differences, come together in unity, and stepped forward in action and prayer. Readers will be encouraged and inspired to do the same, summoning the commitment, courage, and devotion to bring a city to its knees.
Thoughts: Unfortunately, this is more of stories from different people than something from TobyMac. Since it had Toby listed as the author I was hoping for a book that was just from him whatever it may be. I am a huge fan of his so I really wanted to check this out but I just didn’t enjoy it all that much.
Title: The Selection
Author: Kiera Cass
Series: The Selection #1
Publisher: Harper Teen
Release Date: April 24, 2012
Description: For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon. But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks. Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself—and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
Thoughts: I originally shied away from The Selection simply because it is dystopia. I thought the cover was beautiful but I have always gravitated towards fantasy. But as time went on I heard more and more things about this and finally decided to give it a shot.
I’m glad that I did. I think only once or twice I wished it would pick up but overall I enjoyed it. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series but it isn’t that I have to read it now.
America is a great girl. She is stronger than she gives herself credit for. Though she is bit calculated but it is for the good of her family. I like Prince Maxon. He seems genuine.

Thoughts: I think that this is a fun devotional. Each day is a new picture. There are some that are more detailed and will take more time. I thought going into it that they would probably be simple pictures to go with the devotional. But I think it is okay that my assumption was wrong. I still find it comforting and relaxing to color after reading the devotional.

Series: Thunder Road #1
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Release Date: May 26, 2015
Description: An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible. Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she’s curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn’t mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both. Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They’re the good guys. They protect people. They’re…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club’s most respected member—is in town, he’s gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it’s his shot at his dream. What he doesn’t count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down. No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home. (more…)
